Texas re-redistricting upheld
The federal district court has upheld the re-redistricting of the Texas Congressional districts. Tim Storey of the National Conference of State Legislatures (for whose lead to the link I am thankful) says that the court unanimously upheld the authority of a state to do mid-decade re-redistricting, but one judge dissented on some other issues. The opinion is here, but be patient for its loading.

Well, we Texans will have to wait with baited breath for the US Supreme Court's decision in Vieth v. Jubilier to know whether this opinion will stand or not. The fact pattern in Vieth is almost identical to that in Texas, only the acts were on time and less egregious.
I was present at the oral arguments last month in D.C. and it looks like the Pols are going to get to keep picking their voters instead of the other way around. Shame.
