Texas: Gov. Perry and church stage a campaign event (?)
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports: Democrats and a group dedicated to keeping religion out of politics are protesting Gov. Rick Perry's plans to use a Fort Worth Christian school to sign bills aimed at cracking down on abortion and gay marriage.
On Thursday, the Washington, D.C.-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State called on Perry to cancel plans for the weekend bill signing or risk jeopardizing the tax-exempt status of the school and the church that oversees it.
"This is an absolutely grotesque misuse of the church to serve any politician's political interests. That's why we urge him to drop the whole idea," said Barry Lynn, director of Americans United. "If we're convinced that he has no possibility of changing his mind ... we will file a complaint with the IRS." ...
News of the bill-signing ceremony broke earlier this week when the Star-Telegram received an e-mail that originated from Perry's re-election campaign.
It said the Republican governor would stage a ceremony at Calvary Cathedral in Fort Worth on Sunday to sign into law a bill requiring that minors receive written permission from their parents before receiving an abortion.
He'll also sign the gay marriage proposition even though it's just a formality, because only voters can amend the Constitution. -- Star-Telegram | 06/03/2005 | Plans for bill signing draw protests

Gov. Perry has all my support in his endevour and I stand 100% behind him. This country was founded on Christian values and if not for the Christians and churches of this country there would be no United States of Amercia. I refer to any interesetd and "open-minded" people to the WallBuilders' web site for more in depth Christian historical perspective of our great country.
This country WILL BE TAKEN back from the far-left winged liberals that have eroded this country's morals, values and Christian heritage since the 1950's. The liberals, such as this newspaper writer and Barry Lynn, can not stand when Christians take a stand and always want to sue to get his/their way and use such tactics as removing the non-exempt status from churches.
Since I am a Christian and I contribute to other non-profit political efforts, should they lose their tax exempt status too since I and other Christians give to them? You can not separate Christianity from people who are Christians and Politicains. Such a hollow effort by the evil ACLU groups to do so.
Churches formed the first political parties which formed this country. Try separating our forefathers' Christainity from the United States and you would not have this great, BLESSED country we call the United States of America - regardless of how the liberals are trying desparately to re-write the history of America.
It is a mockery of our justice system things have gone this far over the past 50 or so years. As a young adult, I find it a disgrace that my parent's generation allowed these liberals to destroy the moral foundation of OUR country. My generation WILL TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK from the liberal agendas, socialists and communists that have infiltrated us since the 50's.
This country is the most blessed country of all of civilization in the history of mankind due to efforts of "common people" who were Christians. These Christians through Jesus Christ's leading and blessings formed these United States and the beginnings of politics itself started with such strong Bible-believing, God-fearing communities of people. Governor Perry is doing the same function that our forefathers did before him. Again, I encourage you to visit WallBuilders' web site. You can search for it, since I am not spamming here with web sites.
Christianity is not a one day a week lifestyle - it is 24/7 365 lifestyle and to ask someone to change who he is due to "politics" is the most hypocrital idea one could suggest - that goes against this country's basic tenets.
Why not have such signing at a church? I can not think of a better place! Most of the original documents signed in the 1700's occurred in just the same venues - CHURCHES. Without these churches and PRAYERS by the founding fathers, people like Barry Lynn would not have a country to file such lawsuits. By arguing and filing such ridiculous lawsuits, he is helping to destroy the same country that allows him to do so right under his own ignorant eyes. That is irony in its essence form.
The liberals can not admit and do not want to believe that America is a Christian-founded country and they refuse to admit the true history of the United States of America. And in order to dispel the history and any actions of political Christians, they must resort to such lawsuits. I bet if the signing was held at a strip joint or bar, Barry Lynn would praise and endorse such an event. There is evil in this world and there is good. I err to the good side since at the end of the day you can not sit the fence.
If Barry Lynn thinks by trying to take away the tax exempt status of churches that it will slow down the taking back of America and re-instilling Christian morals and beliefs he is so far off. In fact, the day our churches lose their tax exempt status is the day I will double or even triple my contributions and I am willing to believe I am not alone here. There is more than one way to fight such evilness in this world. Our forefathers sacrificed and so will my generation and future generations, if need be to beat back such evilness from groups like "Americans United" and the ACLU. "Amercians United" for what? To destroy the fabric of this great country and how it was built? Laughable.
I quote our First President of the United States, George Washington:
"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
GIVEN under my Hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.
Without such Godly men as our forefathers, where would this country be? In the hands of such people like Barry Lynn? God Help Us All and God Bless the United States through His Son Jesus Christ! God Bless Govenor Perry and his mighty efforts - continue in the faith!!
My generation will be fighting against such evil tactics and taking this country back for the sake of OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS and in RESPECT of our Christian forefathers.
In Christ,
